The Maldives is warm all year round, but the weather follows two monsoon seasons — and choosing the right one can shape your entire trip.
Dry season: November to April
This is the classic Maldives window: sunny skies, calm seas and superb visibility for snorkelling. It is also peak season, so overwater villas over the holidays and in February book out early. If you are planning a honeymoon or milestone trip for these months, start six to nine months ahead.
Shoulder months: May and October
Expect a mix of sunshine and short tropical showers — and noticeably better value. Many resorts offer added extras such as free nights or meal-plan upgrades during these months.
Wet season: June to September
Showers are more frequent, but rarely last all day. This is a wonderful time for surfers and divers hoping to see manta rays and whale sharks, and resort rates are at their lowest.
My tip: choose your atoll as carefully as your resort. Seaplane transfers are part of the magic — but they only fly in daylight, which affects your flight times.
