Cruising is one of the easiest ways to see several destinations in one trip — but first-timers often have plenty of questions. Here are the tips I share with every new cruiser.
- Pick the ship before the itinerary. The atmosphere on board varies enormously between cruise lines.
- Choose your cabin location carefully. Mid-ship and lower decks feel the least motion.
- Fly in the day before. A delayed flight should never cost you the cruise.
- Pack a carry-on for day one. Luggage can take hours to reach your cabin.
- Book speciality dining early. Popular restaurants fill quickly.
- Review the drinks and Wi-Fi packages. They can be good value if you will use them.
- Plan shore excursions in advance. The best ones sell out.
- Check passport and visa rules for every port of call.
- Buy travel insurance that includes medical evacuation.
- Use an advisor. Perks such as onboard credit are often available through travel advisors.
